Learn more about circular cold saws

There several types of saws available in the market and Scotchman cold saw is one of them. Well a cold saw has a circular blade which is used for cutting metal. The reason it is called cold saw is because it does not creates any heat while cutting through the metal. It contains the normal abrasive blade which creates heat while abrading the metal, but the heat generated is transferred to chips which the saw blade creates.

There are two types of blades used in cold saw, first one is Tungsten carbide tipped (TCT) and other one is high speed steel (HHS). Both these blades are driven by a high torque gear as well as high powered motor. The main advantage of using these blades is that these can be re-sharpened, which means that you can reuse these blades many times, till they are properly worn out.

While the cutting process is going on, the blade teeth release the metal in a shearing action and the feed and the feed mechanism moves the blade frontward while the blade rotates. The TCT blades are made up of alloy steel and the teeth’s are inserted with tungsten carbide brazed. HSS blades which are made for non-ferrous cutting work are made from cobalt so that they can produce less heat and make better cuts.

Another advantage of using cold saw is that it doesn’t produces or emits burr, discoloration, dust or sparks. Moreover choosing the type of saw blade also depends on the type and size of material that you want to cut. Along with that the number of teeth, feed rate, cutting speed are also to be taken into account. While using these machines it will be good that you keep the blade teeth’s cool, lubricate the saw and also deploy the flood coolant system is employed. As far as the application of cold saws is concerned, cold saws are used in machining nonferrous as well as ferrous alloys.

It will be good that you wear protective gears while using these machines.
